The Importance of Vitamin D

I often hear people saying they’re topping up their Vitamin D by spending time outdoors in the sunshine – it’s an odd thing to ask, but is it really that simple to do? DNS or DNF?

Did Not Start or Did Not Finish? This is a question that I think about a fair amount in terms of runners and cyclists that have been injured. When you have a race coming up, get injured training for it, or just generally in the run up to the big event, what do you do? Try and fudge through – start and see what happens, gambling on finishing and potentially making things a lot worse, with more time off and rehab afterward, of taking a DNS on the chin and getting on with rehab and training? Tape. Does it stop me from falling apart?!

I read an interesting note on a blog recently. It was about a runner who had been injured and still went ahead with a run they had been training for. I don’t have a problem with that, everyone has important things to do, and if finishing that 10k at all costs is what it is, then so be it. It was going to happen at some point this year. Jasmin had already smashed the records for the Bob Graham – which I had the pleasure of supporting – back in April. I’m injured. Should I rest to make it go away?

Injury. It’s pretty rubbish. Especially when it occurs doing exercise – something that is meant to make you healthier. There also seems to be a massive range of how quickly people get better and come back from injury. Some bounce right back and start doing their thing again, others flounder in the doldrums of injury and re-injury. Ski Season Prep

September is upon us. The Summer holidays have just finished, and the tan hasn’t yet faded away, but my mind is already turning towards skiing and snowboarding.
