VO2 Max and HR zone testing

Last week I (Tim) went to get a VO2 max test on a treadmill. It involved running for a certain amount of time – well, technically til I fell off – at ever increasing speeds and inclines. I lasted all of 6 minutes before it all fell apart, which, apparently is about right. Anything over 7 minutes and you probably haven’t started fast enough, and anything under 5 minutes, you’ve probably overestimated your fitness. By request – Recovery Techniques

So. I ache. I was out flipping tyres and throwing medicine balls around yesterday, and although I warmed down a bit, I didn’t really do any recovery – hence, I ache. Cramp

What is it? Excruciating. That’s what. Out running last week and my left calf decided to cramp. I knew I needed to stop…not much choice really…and stretch out the muscles. But why it was happening is another thing, which I’ll come to later. Back to the what. Well, it is an intensely painful sensation caused by a sudden onset of involuntary muscle contractions or severe muscle shortening. What essentially is happening is an acute muscle spasm.
